THQ is set on keeping its Warhammer license, something it has held for a long time. When you have a huge, fantastic world, the obvious game to make is an MMO, but we all know how difficult, time consuming and costly it is to make an MMO these days.
That doesn’t stop THQ from dropping $50 million on the currently in-development Warhammer MMO. The massive price tag of the game was revealed by THQ CEO Paul Pucino during a recent conference call, and we’re not surprised that it’s that expensive: MMO usually cost at least twice as much as regular AAA titles, which these days is anywhere for $20 to $30 million. The Warhammer MMO has reportedly been in development since 2008.
The Warhammer MMO, whose official title is “Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online” is based on the 40K franchise, and is set for a fiscal 2012 release, meaning it can come as late as April 2013. So don’t close your WoW account just yet.
